Journey's Heir

We Be Whelps!

The Sandpoint Hinterlands is an area where many adventurers go to begin their journeys as it's a well known area with many monsters and rumors surrounding it. It's also a very popular place for goblins to make their homes and the Licktoad goblins make their home in the Brinestump Marsh. When goblins have children they lock them up in a cage that the weak ones are filtered out. These whelps rise from their cage to begin their quest to become true Licktoad goblins.  Of course Kettlehead was the premier goblin since he was much larger than the other whelps and had proven his superiority by bullying the others with divine noogies and stick poking. Further to prove how great he was he had fashioned himself an impressive hat from a teapot. The only other goblins that may have even stood a bit of a chance in comparison to him were Poog, Chuffy Lickwound, Reta Bigbad, and Mogmurch.

The day finally came that they could be freed from their cage and this was done by the Whelp-wrangler Loptop. After lining the PCs and some other goblin whelps up for their assessment, excusing Kettlhead because of his obvious superiority, the tribe gave the whelps four challenges to complete, each successful challenge awarding a badge.

The first challenge, Animal Fiendship, was completed by capturing a very large spider and tying a knot around it. This was completed by all the goblins but not without getting bit a few times. The second challenge, Happy Beat, was a challenge where the whelps had to injure themselves as entertainingly as possible to entertain the tribe. While a few passed out Reta was the clear winner of this challenge. Third, Hurtful Words, constituting the whelps to prove their wit by delivering a clever insult while chewing on a hot stone from the fire pit. Fourth was the Squirmtongue challenge, completed by the whelps successfully gulping down a mouthful of mud while secluding a worm to prove the nimbleness of their teeth.

After all the whelps finished their challenges, Loptop then awarded each their badges and prepared them for their final rite to become true Licktoad goblins. Loptop addressed them, "You maybe think you be tough because you got out of your baby cage, whelps? Psht! You no be goblins. The only real goblins are Licktoads, and a Licktoad without a toad is just… lick So, if you want be Licktoads, you need to catch a toad at Tadpole Bog and also not die. Then you take the toad to Cave of Darkfear and also not die. Then you show your toad to the Darkfear spirit, and mayve if you really are a goblin, then you also not die. Get toad. Show spirit. Kill anything that wants to stop you. Don't die. That last part is very important." Loptop then sketched out a map, handing it to a whelp and shooing them on their way.

So they began their journey. Upon reaching the Tadpole Bog, the whelps began catching frogs. After they all managed to catch their frogs, they then proceeded to follow their map to the Cave of Darkfear that they might become true Licktoads. However, they reached a log blocking their path, standing upon it Kettlehead. "Stupid baby wannabe goblins!" he cried, "You took toads from Kettlehead's special pond, and now you pay my price. Give me all your toads! And say you be stupid!" "I know you are, but what am I?!" Poog quickly retorted. Kettlehead immediately flew into a rage, attacking the other whelps along with his lackeys. Poog fell in the battle, but as did Kettlehead and his minions.

Upon reaching the Cave of Darkfear (an old abandoned hunter's shack), the whelps presented their toads to the spirit of darkfear (the hunter's skeleton) and sang their personal song, making them full goblins. They were attacked by grabby cats (raccoons) and quickly dispatched them. They then headed back to the village to celebrate their success.

On the way back however, they came across a wagon stuck in the mud, with a frustrated half-elf woman wearing crazy colors attempting to get out of the mud to proceed on her way. Upon seeing this, the goblins immediately attacked her, killing her and then looting the wagon. They found various useful items as well as a map and a sparkly letter.

They returned to the village with their new loot in tow and showed it off to Loptop, who had just been telling them to prepare to attack the stranger that someone had spotted beforehand. The map and letter were taken to the village chief, his graciousness Rendwattle Gutwad, and the village was gathered before him in order to prepare them all for a raid on the location marked on the map. All the goblins cheered, knowing they would be able to defeat the evil magic that could create such sparkly words, and prepared for a full attack after a short rest for all the newly ordained goblins to prepare.

The goblins raided the location, finding that it was a Halfling wedding making it a perfect raiding opportunity! They killed most of the guests, with only a few managing to escape. The PCs also managed to defeat a vile dog, being awarded with seats near chief Gutwad at the after raid celebration.

We Be Goblins!

After their previous adventures, Reta Bigbad, Chuffy Lickwound, and Mogmurch were now well renowned goblin heroes among the Licktoad tribe. Yesterday, the tribe discovered that one of their own had been using forbidden arts and engaged in one of the most heinous of crimes — writing things down. After branding his face with scribbles, they swiftly ran Scribbleface out of town, took all his stuff, and burned down his hut. However, inside of his hut was found a map and a lot of fireworks.

This morning, Chief Gutwad announced that there would be a grand feast tonight in order to drive out any lingering bad luck. The heroes were also secretly invited to meet at his Moot House. They arrived and Chief Gutwad praised them for being heroes, "That you aren't fleeing in terror from mighty sound of my voice is all the proof you should need." He told them about the map, and that he figured the map most likely led to even more fireworks! The heroes set off the very next day after a very strong night of merriment.

Into Brinestump Marsh they went, following the path that would lead to more fire sparkles. Not too long on their journey they were suddenly ambushed by Lotslegs Eat Goblin Babies Many, which most goblins were scared of, but not them. With their confidence, they quickly dispatched the giant spider and quickly moved on in their quest. Finally, they made it to the location on the map, a shipwreck that had been decorated with rags and many goblin skeletons. This must be the lair of Vorka, the cannibal, they realized.

After being attacked by a horse, and accidentally knocking down a wasp nest, they boarded the ship, where they found Vorka and her minions. Dogs. Lots of dogs. Seeing all the dogs, they were enraged and killed all of them, taking the treasure and glory back to their village where they were celebrated again.

The Goblin Hunt
(There's Also a Warden)

Having just been dispatched by the Azure Legion, a large and famous Adventurers' Guild, Kyra, Sajan, and Amiri arrived in the small town of Sandpoint. While each had their own reason to be adventuring, they all wanted the help the people of Sandpoint with their most recent problem. The goblins in the southern swamp had acquired fireworks and this new firepower was making them extremely brave. Some other people had ventured into the marsh to try to put a stop to this goblin menace, but none had returned. Now it was your turn with the lure of your wealth and glory whispering to you.

Having accepted this quest, the party set off for the marsh in search of a man living in the swamp who called himself "The Warden of the Swamp". An odd title, and surely an odd one, but he would probably be able to assist them on their quest to find and eliminate the goblin scourge. As they journeyed through the swamp, they noticed many strange things, and finally they saw some human sized footprints going just off the path. While this seemed suspicious, they decided to check it out just in case it was the warden. After following the trail for a while they cam across a small hut made of mud and twigs, but big enough for a person or 2 to fit inside. They check inside, seeing poorly preserved heads and furs of various animals, and even some people. Disgusted, they figured maybe it was hit hut and he was just a bit crazy so they decided to wait.

Until they were attacked. The hovel had been the home of a sinspawn and to protect its home it attacked them but out of vain, for it quickly lost its life. The party returned to the trail to follow it further to try and find the hermit once again. Eventually they found a small well-tended shack near the coast. This must be where he lives.

They knocked on the door, when a halfling answered. "Oh! Welcome to my home! Is there any way I can help you?" They asked him for directions to the goblin village, and while he happily obliged, he seemed as if he was in a hurry to shoo them off and was extremely nervous and shifty. They insisted on asking to see a map, so he invited them in for tea. After some discussion, they were able to get directions from them, but after how suspicious he was acting they knew something was up so Sajan explored the house while the others distracted him. He was unable to find anything of note, but when Kyra stepped out to see how he was doing, the halfling quickly drew a handaxe on Amiri now that she was alone. She intimidated him to the point that he simply held the weapon and cowered, though he eventually attacked, and they quickly dispatched of him. After killing him, he turned into a small gray and twisted creature.

After the combat ended, Sajan went back upstairs to try and check again, a little more thoroughly, and he heard the cries of someone calling from the bedroom. Upon checking the bedroom he found a halfling — this one looking just the same as the one that had attacked them earlier. After realizing he was saved, he thoroughly thanked them and gave them any info that they needed. He also offered to join them on their quest, and his home if they needed to retreat for a rest. They thankfully obliged, and so Walthus joined them on their goblin hunt.He led them toward the goblin village, when they were suddenly ambushed by a small pack of goblins! After defeating them, they continued onward until they made it to the village. Though this was the goblin village something seemed off. The walls had been torn down, there were no goblins to be seen, and some of the huts had been burned and collapsed.

The Goblin Village

Carefully the began to explore the village.

They checked every room, making sure to kill any goblins they found, and found the main hall. The door was barred, and they were unable to force their way in, but Kyra found a secret path into the main  hall and after exclaiming, "Hey guys! There's a secret entrance over here!" The group was still cleaning out the rest of the village as Kyra ascended the ladder. She entered and found the village's treasury, and quickly packed up the gear. Among the gear, she found a fan that had a map drawn on the back of it showing the location of two shipwrecks as well as a cave.

She continued to explore from there and found the royal bedroom next, decorated with various animal pelts and trophies. Kyra entered the main hall just as the party was finishing off the last remaining goblin. She was met by arrows, swords, and a Desnan candle, quickly disabling here as she cried out. The rest of the party quickly ran to her aid and managed to save her and kill the goblins and chief that were hiding in the main hall. Though it was a long and hard fight, they all survived and returned to Walthus' hut in order to recover from their injuries.

The Remains

After looking at the map, Walthus was able to determine the location of the shipwrecks. They decided not to follow the tracks from the village, as something that essentially wiped out a goblin village was something they didn't want to deal with. So they set off for the nearest shipwreck.

Upon arriving at the site, they saw a ship, mostly intact, however it was recently burned. There was a fence around it suggesting that maybe it had been lived in. They examined the site and were able to find a small amount of readable text on the ship that read "Kaijitsu Star." Unable to find anything else of note, they headed towards the next ship. On their way they came across a worn down shack covered in lichen and fungus and well worn. They searched the shack to see if there was anything of interest and managed to find dire rats and a small rat like creature. They killed them, but the blow from Amiri Knocking down the door to the home caused the entire building to collapse, landing on Sajan. Finding anything of interest they could, they set off for the next ship. This ship was much larger than the other one, but was in even worse shape, as it was sundered in two and was mostly sunken. There were a few human skeletons around the ship, and after dispatching them, they searched for anything of note, only being able to find a nameplate dubbing the ship the "Kaijitsu's Blossom."

Their next destination, the cave to the south, was easy enough to spot, though the entrance was covered in a thick mesh of nettles. After entering inside, Kyra lit a rock and Amiri's weapon so that they could see as they explored. They dispatched a giant spider, as well as a giant amoeba as they searched the cave. They came across a room that looked as though people had lived their last moments here, as a few skeletons littered the area.

In the final area, they found a skeleton clad in samurai armor sitting on top of a regal chest, completely motionless. As they approached, it animated, challenging the barbarian to a duel. She hastily accepted and told the others to stand aside so she could prove herself. The samurai proved too much for her however, and upon knocking her unconscious, the others quickly leapt into action to protect her and eliminate the skeleton. Checking his gear and the chest, they found many Tien treasures.

The adventurers returned to Sandpoint, a job well done, and went to a magic shop to get the items appraised for a small fee. After some examination, it was discovered that the broken hilt of the sword that the samurai had wielded contained a letter. The letter was written in Tien though, so none of them could read it. As they went to the Rusty Dragon in order to think about how they were going to decipher the letter, there was suddenly a mass panic in the town.

People were screaming and fleeing to the southeast. The part, being the adventurers and well to do people they were quickly ran off to search for the source and try to put an end to it. They made it to the church and on top of it they saw something terrifying.

Though they knew not what it was or where it came from someone had to stop it; or at least slow it down so that the townspeople could get away. They attempted to halt it, but its overwhelming might was too much for them and they perished.

The Beginning of the End

Sandpoint. Just a small, simple town where a lot of adventurers come through in search of fame, fortune, and glory. This is the simplest place to begin as the most threatening thing in the area is a few scattered goblin tribes. Usually.

While each person who lives and comes here has different beginnings, those who live the town want a simple life, and those who pass through want to start their journeys simply. Such is the same for Anton, Khemosh, Ro'Gath, and Galadrian. While all of them didn't begin in this town they simply live quietly in this small town.

The date is Lamashan the 29th. A normal day like any other. However, on this day, there's news. A group of adventurers who recently explored the Brinestump Marsh in order to eliminate the goblin menace, found old Tian shipwrecks as well as a cave containing some Tian warrior remains and some treasure, most likely from one of the ships. One of the weapons they recovered had a letter hidden in the hilt written in Tien and they gave it to Ameiko Kaijitsu, the patron of the Rusty Dragon Inn, as it had the name Rokuro Kaijitsu scrawled at the bottom.

Upon receiving and reading the letter, Ameiko got incredibly excited and gathered a few friends to recruit some close allies in order to find what the letter may be talking about. She could only imagine what sort of strange legacy might be hidden in the "warding box" mentioned in the note. Tracking down a family secret and going on an adventure was far too much of a temptation for Ameiko as well as the recruits, who accepted quite quickly.

However, just as everyone left to make preparations before heading off, something grave was going on. The townspeople were in a frenzy, fleeing from the church. The adventurers who delivered the note to Ameiko, as well as the group, went to go see what was happening. There upon the church they saw a great, dark jackal-like beast. They group quickly fleed, as the adventurers rushed to try and hold the beast off. On their way out of town, the group got split up, and Galadrian, Anton, and Ro'Gath came across some strange and pale kobolds. They were able to defeat one but not without taking heavy damage. As the rest of the group found them and had the caravan ready to move out, they quickly retreated and managed to escape. They made their way to Magnimar, and were just fine.
